We are excited to announce the three finalists of the FNB Art Prize. The high standard of submissions put forward by our participating galleries made judging difficult.
The finalists are:
Athi-Patra Ruga (Whatiftheworld Gallery)
Cape Town based artist Athi-Patra Ruga uses his work to explore the borders of fashion, performance and contemporary art. Humor, sensuality and multicultural references underpin his work.
Recent exhibitions include those held at the Stenersen Museum in Oslo, Norway; the Guangzhou Trienalle in China and a solo exhibition at FRED Gallery in London. He has also been invited to participate in the 2011 Performa Biennial in New York later this year.
Cedric Nunn (Bailey Seippel Gallery)
Cedric Nunn began his career as a documentary photographer in the early ‘80s. After years of documenting the realities of the Apartheid regime, he moved on to cover the first democratic elections in 1994. Over the following decades, Nunn has participated in numerous projects, and held multiple solo exhibitions.
Nirveda Alleck (Migrant C)
Nirveda lives in Mauritius and practices as an Art Consultant at the Apravasi Ghat World Heritage Site. She has participated in many international exhibitions and was recently awarded the prestigious 2010 Soleil ‘Afrique Prize.
